The Western Connecticut Council of Governments (WestCOG) provides assistance in regional planning, transportation, environmental management, emergency preparedness, economic development, and municipal shared services to a region of 18 municipalities and 610,000 residents.

Planning Aide/Assistant/Associate Planner (Temporary)

WestCOG seeks qualified person(s) to serve as Planning Aide(s), Assistant Planner(s), or Associate Planner(s) on its team immediately. Planning staff will have opportunities to contribute to exciting projects and learn on the job in a professional environment.

Projects staff may work on include:

  • Comprehensive and land use planning,
  • Transportation planning, programs, and studies,
  • Emergency preparedness,
  • Environmental management,
  • Economic development, and
  • Municipal shared services.

The ideal candidate will knowledge, experience, and skills in:

  • Data collection, including fieldwork,
  • Research and analysis methods and techniques,
  • Case studies and best management practices,
  • Creation of public documents,
  • Public speaking and presentations,
  • Project and time management,
  • Preparation of correspondence,
  • Stakeholder and public involvement, and
  • Local, state, and federal partners and programs.

S/he should be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or graduated, from an accredited university in one of the following or a related field:

  • Geography
  • Statistics
  • Logistics
  • Transportation
  • Planning
  • Policy, Government, or Public Administration
  • Civil Engineering

To be considered, applicants must have excellent spoken and written English, a driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and be legally able to work in the United States.

Compensation will be $15-$30 per hour, depending on qualifications. The location of employment will be Sandy Hook, CT. The duration of employment (not to extend beyond June 30, 2019) and working hours may be negotiated.

Transportation/GIS Professional (Temporary)

The Western Connecticut Council of Governments (WestCOG) seeks qualified person(s) with demonstrated expertise and a record of success in transportation and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to begin immediately.

Title (and pay) will depend on qualifications but may include Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, GIS Analyst, or Senior GIS Analyst.

To be considered, applicants must have excellent spoken and written English, a driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and be legally able to work in the United States.

The location of employment will be Sandy Hook, CT. The duration of employment (not to extend beyond June 30, 2019) and working hours may be negotiated.
