Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities
Program Information
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 Program intends to enhance mobility for seniors and persons with disabilities by providing funds for programs that serve the special needs of transit-dependent populations beyond traditional public transportation and paratransit. Since 1975, the state of Connecticut has received annual FTA Section 5310 funds for transportation of seniors and individuals with disabilities. This Program awards grants towards the purchase of wheelchair accessible vehicles. Both private non-profit organizations and local public bodies are eligible for FTA Section 5310 funds.
Application Process
The Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 application process has begun. Key deadlines for the application process are provided below.
- Traditional applicants must publish a Public Notice one (1) time in a major newspaper with the greatest readership in the proposed area by Friday, March 14th, 2025
- Emails or letters of notification must be sent to private and public paratransit operators in the proposed service area one week before the Public Notice is placed in a major newspaper.
- To ensure completeness, draft applications are recommended to be sent to Todd Fontanella by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21st, 2025 for review.
- Final applications must be electronically submitted by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 1st, 2025 to Todd Fontanella and to CTDOT.
