Data Collection Services
WestCOG has data collection equipment and staff to assist member municipalities develop projects of regional and municipal significance. WestCOG staff are trained in collecting different types of data and provide analyses, as time and funds allow. Please reach out to associated staff to ask about availability.

Intersection Turning Movement Counts
Equipment: 6 temporary traffic cameras
Duration: Up to 50 hours of video for 3 or 4 approach intersections (stop or signal controlled, roundabout, uncontrolled)
Outputs: 15-minute pedestrian crossing counts and turning counts for cars, heavy vehicles, and bicyclists
Case Examples: LOS, pedestrian and cyclist counts, signal timing/capacity, traffic control warrants, signal coordination

Traffic Speeds and Volumes for Mid-Block Locations
Equipment: 3 temporary traffic radars
Duration: Available to collect up to 2 weeks of data for up to 4, midblock lanes when mounted in the median or up to 2 lanes when mounted on the side of the road.
Outputs: Bidirectional volume, speed, and vehicle classification
Case Examples: ADT, traffic calming studies (speed analysis), corridor volume analysis

Pedestrian Volume Counters
Equipment: 3 TRAFx trail counters are available for counting people on sidewalks, paths, and trails
Duration: Long battery life – up to 1 year

Sound Level Data Logging
Equipment: Noise Sentry Logger to measure sound frequency
Duration: Up to 10 days
Outputs: Maximum, minimum and average frequency levels in dB-A and dB-C

Drone Video Footage
Equipment: 1 Dji Mavic Pro 3 UAV capable of capturing HD pictures and video
Duration: 3 batteries allow up to three 30-minute flights
Case Examples: Traffic monitoring, infrastructure scan, tourism advertisement, disaster response
Output: HD video in 3-minute intervals (output videos may be stitched together) or HD images .JPG files

Stormwater Inventory Mapping
Equipment: WestCOG Field Mapping Technicians are available to inventory and create GIS data layers of MS4 stormwater infrastructure
Case Examples: MS4 compliance, and field data collection.
Output: Features include catch basins, outfalls, and drainage pipes with attributes including pipe material, diameter, and basin depth.
- Technicians may also be available for additional data collection tasks as needed.
